What is a Doula? A Doula is a woman experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a woman and her family before, during and just after childbirth. Doulas believe that pregnancy and birth are normal, natural and healthy processes. A Doula helps the laboring woman with encouragement, comfort measures, relaxation techniques, and an objective viewpoint, as well as support after childbirth, such as help with breastfeeding. Target Audience: Childbirth educators, nurses, nursing students, midwifery students, massage therapist, physical therapist, and anyone interested in assisting women and their families achieve a positive birth experience. Purpose: This workshop is an excellent way to explore your interest in a career as a doula. It is also one-step in the process of becoming a certified doula. Food: Snacks provided daily. Meals are on your own. Childcare: Quiet nursing babes in arms are welcome. Childcare is not provided. |
